  • Kindergarten- wrapping up the primary color unit by creating still life photography using collected red, yellow, and blue objects

    First- learning about the color spectrum, ROYGBIV (rainbow order) and how to create all the colors using red, yellow, and blue. Creating paintings featuring every color of the rainbow using only red, yellow, and blue paints

    Second- wrapping up drawings of suns and moons featuring hot and cold colors to represent the warmth and energy of the sun and the calmness brought by the night and the moon

    Third- reviewing color theory concepts of primary colors, ROYGBIV, and hot and cold colors. Creating drawings using repeating patterns and the principal of design, rhythm, to represent each color theory concept they have learned so far.

    Fourth- learning about complementary colors and American painter George Rodrigue. Famous for his Blue Dog paintings. Selecting an animal of their own to be painted using only complementary colors to show contrast.

    Fifth- learning about the art of glass blowing and Muresco glass that comes from Italy. Creating drawings and paintings inspired by the translucent glass and how colors change when light shines through the overlapping glass in galleries.

    Sixth- using complementary and analogous colors on the color wheel to create a still life drawing with colored pencil of gift boxes for the holidays

     

  • 6th grade: Constructing questions and formulating answers on the topic of likes and dislikes in regards to common activities. (ex. I do not like to play sports.)

    5th grade  Listen to an Entertainment Tonight segments in Spanish.  Answer questions regarding the homes of famous Latinos.  

    4th grade: Listing, matching, recognizing numbers 10-20.

    Asking and answering, ¿Cuál es tu número favorito? (What is your favorite number?) 

    Asking and answering ¿Cuántos años tienes tú? (How old are you?) 

     

     

     

  • The garden is officially asleep for the winter, the students worked hard clearing beds and trellises to get this ready for Spring.  Kindergarten has been learning about compost and what things can be composted.  First grade is continuing their expiration of seeds and learning about tree seeds from maples, oaks and pines. 2nd grade is diving into predator and prey in the garden, learning all about dragonflies and ladybugs to start.  3rd and 4th grade helped set up our tower gardens and have been learning how to care for them, testing the water for ph levels and mineral content. We can’t wait to harvest for our cafeteria to use!  5th grade learned all about microgreen and started their own trays of them in the greenhouse.  6th grade ventured out to the garden during a frosty day to observe the states of matter in our garden!  The week of December 15th we will begin working on our tradition of decorating the tree in the reading garden for the wildlife to enjoy with edible ornaments,

     

     

  • Grades K–1 are learning basic coding skills such as sequential thinking, recognizing patterns, and creating algorithms. Through engaging, offline coding activities, students practice giving step-by-step instructions and developing early problem-solving and logical-thinking skills.

    Second graders are in the keyboarding unit. Students will be able to describe and demonstrate several ways a computer program can receive data and instructions (input) and can present results (output). 

    Third graders are investigating how simple machines can reduce effort by creating functional pulley systems that lift a spider model to its web. Throughout the engineering design process, students brainstorm solutions, sketch and construct a model, test their designs, and make improvements. 

    Students in Grades 4–6 are continuing the Digital Citizenship unit, which teaches them how to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly. These lessons help students think critically about online interactions, make informed choices, and take responsibility for their digital footprint. 

     

     

     

  • In PE we have finished up our pickleball unit.  The kids loved playing in many singles and double games of King/Queen of the court.  This week we are starting our hockey unit for the secondary grades.  The next 2 weeks will do the parachute and winter wonderland stations for our primary kids.

     

     

  • Students are learning all about winter holidays in the library this month. From reading fun stories that teach us about holidays and traditions, to researching different traditions from around the world. Grades K-2 are engaging with stories to introduce and strengthen their background knowledge of winter holidays. Grades 3-4 are diving into research techniques while they learn about various folktales around the world and practice sorting fact from fiction. Grades 5-6 are strengthening their research techniques by researching various winter holidays. 5th grade is looking into the different  holiday traditions and folktales from around the world.  6th grade is strengthening their research skills across multiple platforms including using nonfiction books and databases. 

  • The students in our performing groups are busy preparing for their upcoming concert on Wednesday, December 17th. 

    Grades K-2 are learning about the music from the  Nutcracker, through stories, dance, and instruments. 

    Older students have been working on folk dances and using popular holiday music to go along with it.
