Sixth Grade News

The sixth graders are in full swing with Holiday Helpers planning.  They are excited to push into classes to read books and work on holiday activities with younger students in this yearly memorable tradition. In science we are digging in deep to understand the behavior and motion of the particles that make up the three states of matter. In ELA, the students just finished writing their personal narratives. We enjoyed a “Popcorn Publishing Party” to share our writing with each other. Next, we will be exploring the topics of theme and plot as we dive into reading and writing short stories. In Social Studies we have started our unit on Ancient Egypt.  We have begun learning the map of Ancient Egypt and we are also learning how to read Roman Numerals so that we can read about the Pharaohs, many of whom have a Roman Numeral after their name.  The unit will conclude in January with our very own Egyptian Market. In Math we are learning about how we use Percentages in the world around us and how to convert between Fractions, Decimals, & Percents.
